After reading Young Goodman Brown, I noticed a lot of symbolism. Different things and sayings were used in many different ways to represent more than one purpose, from the name FAITH (having a sense of comfort and believing in something isn't concrete), to the pink ribbon (conrete symbol of FAITH), Goodman - Good Man, Symbolic figures(devil), etc.
Overall, the story gave the readers a sense to think whats the truth about who(or what) is good or evil.
